My dog twisted her ankle and she looks to be in a little bit of pain and is limping around. Its not broken and there are no cuts on her paw. What can I give her?
I know I can't give her Tylenol. Is Aleve ok? We don't have any aspirin in the house.Call your vet. Greyhounds are very very sensitive to drugs- especially pain killers. Ask if he will prescribe Rimidyl.NO. No Aleve, no Tylenol, no ibuprofen. All toxic to your dog. Even aspirin should not be given without consulting first with your vet. If she's still limping tomorrow, phone a vet, they can give you a proper painkiller for your dog. No, sorry dear. Human medication is not good to give to a dog. Your best bet is to probably call your emergency vet and see what they suggest you can do for her.
Good luck. NO TYLENOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO ALEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Those are very very bad for your dog!!!!! You need to use low dose aspirin for heart health ( I think its 81mg) I know you said you don't have any but that's what you can give her. Tylenol and Aleve can kill your dog! you also want to keep her off it as much as possible.Eeek... do NOT give Aleve to your dog. The only human-type pain reliever a dog should have is baby aspirin, & even then you have to check with a vet or carefully research to get the right dosage for your dog's weight.
Vets can prescribe painkiller especially for animals, & they usually aren't very expensive at all. Experimenting with painkillers meant for humans is dangerous.Besides the fact that both Tylenol & Aleve will KILL her - have a care about doing TOO good a job at painkilling - sighthounds are famous for taking pain relief as a sign they can go out & run on the weak ankle & damage it beyond healing My dog takes Rimadyl for inflammation and Tramadol prescribed from the vet for pain, When I sprained my wrist my Dr. prescribed the same thing, also known as Ultram maybe someone you know has this collecting dust in the medicine cabinet, The doggie dose of tramadol ( for my 20 lb dog) is 50mg every 8 hrs as needed for pain!
or try Osteo Bi-Flex, they sell it at Walmart!
"We first started Max on Rimadyl for three months. During the last month we suplemented Rimadyl with a product called 'Osteo Bi-Flex.' It has Glucosamine and Chondroitin in it. This product is for humans with joint problems. It helps to promote cartilage regeneration. We tried Max on just the Osteo Bi-Flex and never went back to Rimadyl. We give Max 4 tablets once per day when we feed him. Each tablet contains: Glucosamine....250 mg and Chondroitin....200 mg.This is the fourth month that Max has been on it. He seems to be doing just as well as, if not better than, when he was taking Rimadyl. The product is available at WalMart." quoted from webpage, NOT MY QUOTE
